Exclamation Scariest Game?

Time for a new poll!

I recently bought Project Zero (Fatal Frame) on ebay, because I hate having money and get rid of it at every possible opportunity. It's terrifying. Playing it in the dark by yourself is horrible. The atmosphere is tense, ghosts appear when you least expect them and being armed with only a camera gives a real sense of vulnerability. I've also got a soft spot for the resident evil series, especially 1 and 4. They're probably better games, but I find this much more unnerving. It's difficult to be afraid at some points in Resi 4 when you're carrying so many weapons that you begin to wonder how Leon can still walk carrying that weight.

So, anyone else got a favourite?

(You might want to specify which game in the series you particulary like, as I didn't have room to list the entire series of Resi/silent hill/ project zero)

Not really my type of game if i'm honest, but i've seen F.E.A.R. played and that's scary. Can't really comment much on the others, but the devil dog through the window in resident evil 1 is a classic moment.

The dog through the window moment haunts me to this day.

Looks like Doom 3 is winning so far. The fact that you can't have a weapon and a flashlight equipped at the same time makes the game really tense. And the voices whispering to you... first time that happened, I had my earphones in and got the feeling that someone was standing right behind me because of the surround sound effect... then someone dropped something in the flat upstairs and I pretty much jumped out of my seat and looked for somewhere to hide.

Personally i think the Silent Hill games are the scariest games, the atmosphere is so tense throughout the game. Like in Silent Hill 2 the streets are extremely foggy so you don't have a clue where you are going and the radio that creates static when monsters are near also adds to the tension. Also it doesn't help that ammo is very limited in the game, so you can't afford to miss a shot so a lot of the time you have to beat the monsters up close with a stick, personally I would rather stay as far away from the monsters as possible.
The Resident Evil series is also a great horror game series. Nemesis jumping through the window of the police station with a rocket launcher in Resident Evil 3 was a great moment and truly scared me to death.

Doom wasn't too scary really. Erm, I think that the graphics emphasized it.

Condemned really is quite a scary game, it is a deliberate but nevertheless has been done well.

Not really my genre though.
