GT5 Prologue download weighs 1.9GB

To download or to get the Blu-ray version: that is the question.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's release is coming rather soon for both our American and European readers. However, which version should one pick up? For those seeking instant gratification off the hard drive, perhaps the download is the way to go. But take note: the download weighs a hefty 1.9GB.

Some may be wondering: how come the game is so small when a Blu-ray disc can hold so much more? By getting rid of all the videos. Eurogamer explains: "Prologue reduces its footprint is by leaving cinematics on the server until you choose to download them from GT TV. You can choose to download the opening movie at any time, and when you finish Event series you're told that you can now download the end movie from the in-game high-definition TV download page."

Personally, this blogger is much more interested in picking up the retail copy. Who wants to wait to download over and over again?

The 1.9 GB download is not that big of a deal. I've downloaded HD movies on Xbox Live Marketplace and those can be even bigger. As long as you've got a broadband connection and can wait a while, it's no biggie.

The only bummer about downloadable content is that it's not portable. Unlike a disc, you can't take it to your friend's house to play over there. And god help you if something goes haywire with your hard drive.

I love racing games and GT5 looks awesome. I love the in-the-cockpit view. I may have to breakdown and buy a PS3!!!

GT3 was too hard and serious for me. I'm too used to arcade racers to have the patience for GT, but I do understand why people love it. Just not my thing.

With this download, there doesn't really seem to be any real benefit over buying the disc, unless it's much cheaper? I dunno, I'm weird and just like having the disc and case. I still prefer to buy cds, rip them to my computer/mp3 player, then never use them again rather than pay to download music... slightly crazy.

I've got mixed feelings about Gran Turismo after playing 4. I could only do 6% of it until i got the guide and found a 'cheat' to get £350k pretty quick. I think it just got too serious in some of its events, with penalties for touching the wall. The best GT I played was GT:Concept, probably because it wasn't as super-serious as the normal GT titles.

On the other hand, I'll definitely be tempted to pick up a copy, considering there's going to be more then 6 cars on the road for once and it looks like they've got Ferrari on board for this one. Maybe I'll pick up a cheap copy if a ever get a PS3
