I noticed on the members list a category for 'reputation'. What is this for and how will it work?

Very observant!
User reputation allows us to flag people that have an exceptional post. Over time, their reputation goes up. It's a better measurement of the quality of that member's replies than post count.
As an aside, can you see a little icon that looks like this http://www.getgamer.com/forum/images/greenleaf/buttons/reputation.gif in the green bar above my post?

good idea! However, i seem to be able to click on and improve my reputation by myself. I tried it (only once) and it says 'sharpshooter has 10 reputation points'.
Also, maybe we could use this as a requirement for the arcade instead of post count? It might work

Actually, it was just displaying your reputation. By default, everyone starts with 10 points. Try clicking mine and you should see something different.

Ah, I noticed that last night, but I didn't have time to post a topic. :( Oh well.
Looks like it'll be a good feature, but if people just don't like you, they might abuse it.

Thats a good point hurricane, i was thinking about that too. I suppose that people would have to be reported if they kept doing it and maybe their reputation would be lowered instead.
It could be abused to increase it as well. What if some friends just keep giving a good reputation to each other for no reason? That could be an easy way of increasing reputation, unless the amount of reputation given/taken is limited.
