I was originally going to do a 'first impressions' review for PES 4 (winning eleven 7 in Japan), like i did with FIFA 2005 (http://www.getgamer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48) but the game was so good i had to carry on.

The graphics are amazing. Players look exactly like they do in real life and have there own features. Even their own hairstyles appear for certain players, no matter how stupid they are (cue Ronaldo and David Beckham).

Players also make their own moves like they would during a game. If anybody knows who Ruud Van Nistelrooy is, he will step offside and onside, confusing defenders. David Beckham will have do his free kick routine, Robbie Keane does his own goalscoring celebration and Roberto Carlos will blast the ball over the bar everytime he takes a free kick (while doing his unique run-up).

The advantage rule has now been made effective, where play is taken back if no advantage is gained. In Pro Evo 3, the rule was a disaster, where a player would be fouled but the other team went off and scored. This (thankfully) has been corrected.

Another great addition to the game is where a player can be treated for injuries before being declared injured. In older versions, if you were injured, you were injured.

Overall, another great game. It now contains 135 teams (55 national, 80 clubs) with 56 clubs licensed, an improvement on last year. Now that teams are in their own leagues (eg Premiership, Serie A) it brings more realism and competition to the game.

If you love soccer, get this game.
