Sony have announced that the PSP (Playstation portable) will be released in Japan end of 2004, and the USA and Europe Spring 2005. Calling it the 'Walkman of the 21st Century', the PSP can play movies and games on its UMD (Universal Media Disc) discs and pictures, game files and MP3/ATRAC music files stored on the memory sticks. This shows that sony aren't going to make the mistakes of nokia and be pushed out of the market so easily.
The PSP has some specs equal to or better than the PS2's. The PSP's graphic synthesizer runs at 166Mhz, while the PS2's runs at 147.456Mhz. An impressive feat for a handheld console. For a full list of specs, click here (http://forums.rgaming.net/showthread.php?t=589)
The launch games are also more impressive then the PS2's original line up. Here are some examples:
Burnout
Death Jr.

Jak and Daxter
Metal Gear Ac!d

World Rally Championship.
This will be Nintendo's greatest handheld challenge yet.
