Sony forced to pay $82 million over Dual Shock System
Sony was sued by Immersion after it claimed the Duel Shock system's 'mass-moving actuator' infringed its copyrights. The mass-moving actuator is what makes the controller vibrate by transmitting vibrations to a sensing body part.
Immersion claimed the mass-moving actuator infringed its copyrights and the courts agreed. From this ruling, Sony must pay Immersion $82 million in damages and $27 million a year in licensing if it wants to keep using the technology.
