Everyone claims the mac is safer but realisticly isn't it less safe because most people on a mac are not as cautious as pc users. Pc users are running software firewalls to see what connections are coming in and out, (http://universe-of-mp3.info/download-free-song-video.html) sandboxing type software and other security type programs. If someone personally knows you are on a mac seems they could target you better since they know you proably won't be looking for anything out of the ordinary. What do you guys think

Yes, the Mac really is safer.

Part of the reason though is that there are far more Windows PCs than Macs. If you're writing a virus, you want to wreak maximum havoc. That means going after the operating system with the biggest number of users. Which means Windows.

Mac gets ignored by a lot of virus writers simply because of it's smaller user base.

The other thing in the Mac's favor is that, by default, your user account does not have admin rights. That means that programs that you are "using" (even though you might not be aware of it, as in the case of a trojan or virus) may not have "permission" to make system-level changes without first prompting for an admin login. Which should send up a warning flag to you, the user.

So yeah, the Mac really is safer than the PC, although the PC can be just as safe if you follow the best practices.
