Smash Bros. for Wii

If you've never play Smash Bros, then you've missed out on the best fighter for the Gamecube. With its myriad of characters from tons of different Nintendo games, you get to see Pokemon fight against Link against Mario against Samus.

Now they're going to have a new iteration of the series for the Wii. This new game will have some new characters, such as Pit (from Kid Icarus), MetaKnight (from Kirby) and Wario. In addition to new characters some old characters learned a few new tricks. For instance, Samus can remove the Power Suit under certain conditions. Check out the video to see another surprise character (he appears near the end).

I'd say it's pretty likely that all the 26 characters from the last game will make a reappearance in the new one. It would suck to lose my favorite fighter (Marth).

And of course the game will be online-playable. Hopefully they'll have a robust system for this, since Smash Bros requires split second timing.

More information, including an interview with the director of the game, a trailer, some music (composed by Nobuo Uematsu!) can be found at their official site

Looks very good. I have tried smash bros on GameCube and it was brilliant to play, especially with friends, even though it was only a quick couple of fights. This one looks like it'll be even better, especially with the new characters. I have to admit, I don't think many would expect the introduction of one of them.

I'm suprised they'd left Wario out for so long, considering he's been around for a long time. Wasn't Waluigi in the GameCube version, or am i mistaken?

Nope, no Waluigi so far. If you check out the Official Site you can see they put up the newest character profile. Here's a pic of Snake facing off against Link.

Wasn't there an update of the original Metal Gear Solid on the gamecube? Running on the MGS2 engine? Can't remember what it was called though.

I've never actually got to play Smash Bros yet. Pity, i've always wanted to give it a go. I'm considering picking up a cheap second hand GC and a copy of that game, along with a few others... Zelda and Ikaruga spring to mind. :P

MGS: The Twin Snakes I think. I think it's worth picking up a cheap GameCube at the moment - around £35-45 pre-owned and £60-70 new. Smash Bros is definitley one of those games i'd get with the GameCube if i got one, but i'd have to get Mario Kart as well. I enjoyed that on the N64 and played it for ages, like many other games. Never played Zelda that much though.

Smash bros on gamecube was quite good, but it did get samey after a while. Its a bit like Devil may cry on ps2. You enjoy the first couple of hours and then get really bored of it. I think Power stone 2 on the Dreamcast was a better 4 player fighter.
