The Nintendo Wii

The system codenamed Revolution has an official name now. It's the Nintendo Wii (pronounced like we).

I'm not sure what to think about the name, but it's definitely shorter than the other next-gen consoles. Brevity is a nice thing in my book.

The Nintendo Wii? Thats just not a good name... In fact, I think its probably the worst name for a console i've ever heard. They should've just left it at Revolution.

Here's an interesting article on how it might not be such a bad name. My thoughts are that the name doesn't make the system and that I'll still buy it.

If you're seriously too embarassed to play on a console because of its name, then you're not a true gamer.

I wouldn't be embarrased to play on it. After all, the games make the system. Its just a very bad name. Theres something wrong with the sound of it that doesn't make it very appealing.

The name ''wii'' just lacks anything to do with games and i think its quite a bad choice, even though ''revolution'' is almost unpronounceable in Japan. However, like the article says, we'll probably get used to it. I wouldn't be embarrassed to have one, but i dont think i'd get one unless i had a PS3 anyway, because i need to play Pro Evo.

Is there any specs available though? I'd like to know what extra features it also has, apart from the classic games available to play. It's just that I havent heard anything and it's a long time for any console devloper to hold back its specs, considering Xbox 360's been out for a few months,

I know what you mean, about the specs. I'm betting they have a few tricks up their sleeves though, since they released this before E3. They said they had some big secrets for E3 and if this isn't one of the big secrets then they've got to have something that'll just surprise the hell out of us.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing some actual game demos, since they haven't shown anything at all in that respect. Those tech demos don't really count either, since they were just to showcase the controller.

I agree. They wouldn't have left the console spec announcement this long unless there was something to show. I thought it was held back a little as Xbox and PS3 were announced because the console was a little underpowered, but they still wouldn't leave it this long. Nintendo surprised people with the controller and a radical idea with the console would go quite nicely with it.
