We missed this one back when we were gathering up PSP review links. The review is a well-written and balanced take on the new Sony device (though there are some slight exxagerations, such as “Analysts have speculated that Sony is losing several hundred dollars on each machine.”) The bottom line? The PSP is a solid first try, with a look and feel
beyond its retail price. Criticisms include the weight, speakers and the battery life (it looks like the average time with “average” use is settling at around the 3 hour mark). One interesting observation is that, counter to Sony’s claims of region-free use, there’s a Region 2 stamp on the game box. As Engadget points out, this would not be satisfactory.

By checking this out, as I thought, nothing comes for free. Look at the 'requirements' of recieving a free sony PSP. I've highlighted particulary important areas:

How does this work?

Yoursmartrewards operates an incentive promotion program where consumers can receive a gift after fulfilling the participation requirements.

The cost of the gift is covered by the offer sponsors (such as Columbia House, Discover Card, and others), and once you complete the participation requirements, we will send you the gift with free shipping!

Companies spend a lot of money in advertising trying to recruit users to their services, why not turn the tables and reward the consumer with that money?

3 Easy Steps to Get Your Gift

To receive the incentive gift for this promotion ('Sony PSP') you must complete the following steps:

Register with your accurate contact info (such as email & postal address) when requested so we know where to ship your gift.

Complete a total of 6 sponsor offers.

The required sponsor offers must be completed in the following sequence: Two (2) offers need to be completed from 'Top Offers 1' group, Two (2) offers need to be completed from 'Top Offers 2' group and Two (2) offers need to be completed from 'Top Offers 3' group respectively. Our sponsors cover the entire cost of your gift along with the shipping & handling fees for us to ship the gift to you.

Examples of sponsored offers may include free trial offers, credit cards, free quote requests and other free or low-cost offers. Please note that there are typically a variety of offers presented for your selection - some offers require a small purchase, while others are free trials or free applications which does not require a purchase (and can be cancelled without obligation).

To 'Complete' an offer, you must sign up, get approved for and activate (where applicable*) the sponsor offer, while following any instructions and terms that are provided.

*For Discover Card offers, the card must be activated by making a purchase, balance transfer or cash advance in order for the offer to be considered 'completed'.

Why are the sponsors paying for the gift?

Sponsors such as Columbia House are doing this to drive users to their web sites and services. For the sponsors, underwriting the costs of the gift is a good deal because this is a marketing promotion for them that works.

Why are you doing this?

We are offering this incentive promotion with the help of sponsors to drive users to our web site and to build a way for consumers to earn rewards. Companies spend a lot of money in advertising trying to recruit users to their services, why not turn the tables and reward the consumer with that money?

Do I have to redeem my gift by a certain date?

Yes. You must complete all the requirements within 90 days after your original date of Yoursmartrewards registration.

What's the catch?

There is no catch! Our advertisers and sponsors cover our costs for your gift as well as the shipping and handling. To get your Gift, simply complete the requirements outlined above. Once you complete the requirements, we will ship the gift to you free of charge!

But it cost you $300 to get the PSP, so just go out and buy one and dont fall for stupid promotions.
