Yes, Hell has frozen over. Pigs do fly. And — according to Gearbox Software — the long awaited Duke Nukem Forever has gone gold! The release date has been reset to June 10 internationally and June 14 in North America. Yeah, I thought it was weird, too.

As described on the Gearbox blog, “The road to gold was paved over the course of 15 years and its legendary path climaxes on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC. Gamers who pre-order the title from select outlets will ensure that they are among the first to experience this legendary piece of gaming history when the demo launches on June 3, 2011 for all platforms, exclusively for Duke Nukem First Access Club Members.”

Like many of you, I cut my video gaming teeth first on the 2D Duke Nukem scroller, later on the first-person shooter. This one ranks right up there with one of the most anticipated games of all times. You can preorder now (do you feel lucky?) or wait it out until the 10th/14th depending on where in the world you live.

Until then, check out the official Duke Nukem Forever game trailer.

Telltale Games has announced some official details today for their upcoming movie-extending videogame. Back To The Future will be available for PC and Mac platforms in December. While PS3 and iPad versions are in the works, no timetable has been given for their release. For $24.95 you can pre-order the title and gain access to an exclusive discussion board with the game’s developers. Also, included in the cost, $1 from every pre-order will go towards the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The plot supposedly continues where the third film left off. Dust off the ol’ DeLorean and get ready for a nostalgic blast this December

Criterion Games, the team in charge of developing EA’s latest Need For Speed title, has announced a demo for Hot Pursuit available on October 26th. The demo will provide a glimpse of the high speed action, allowing players to be “able to chase as a cop in the Dark Horse Hot Pursuit event, speeding through the coastal highway and mountainous ridges of Seacrest County.” Also featured in the demo is Need For Speed‘s new “Autolog” social racing network which allows users to add friends, race together, and track Cop and Racer progress. Completion of the demo will give players 500 Bounty points that will be saved for progress in the retail game. Interestingly, the demo will cease to function on November 9th, a week before the release is expected. No news as to why that is, but keep the date if you plan on testing before buying. Need For Speed Hot Pursuit is coming on November 16th in the US for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii (although Wii does not include “Autolog” feature).

Spencer Kern, upon being interviewed, says, “By having [user-generated content] implemented in the way that Steam has it, where people are getting monetary gains for the items they put in, it rewards people who put in the good items, who listen to the community and put in the stuff that everyone wants to see in the game… It’ll bring out the quality artists to do the work.” With news like this, the market for user-submitted items is sure to increase. Time to get out that [computer graphic rendering] drawing board!

After some difficulty working with seated players, Microsoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360 has received an update to fix the issue. While originally, the camera would detect a “base node” at the bottom of the spine, a software update has been applied to move the base node to the back of the neck. Now, when gamers are seated on a couch, for example, and their knees rise above their waist, Kinect will still accurately sense their movements in the upper torso and arms, based on a point at the back of their neck.

Also, Microsoft revealed the launch titles for Kinect today. Twelve games will drop on the same day as Kinect, November 4th, while the rest will follow. Pick up the Kinect bundle (with Kinect Adventures) for $150, or buy a 4GB Xbox 360 with the Kinect bundle for $299. Also available is the 250GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle for $399. Here are the twelve launch titles for November 4th:

Kinect Adventures - bundled with Kinect

Kinectimals

Kinect Joy Ride

Adrenalin Misfits

Fighters Uncaged

Sonic Free Riders

Kinect Sports

MotionSports

Your Shape: Fitness Evolved

Dance Central

Dancemasters

The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout

Titles to come later:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 – November 16

EA Sports Active 2 – November 16

Zumba Fitness – November 18

Game Party: In Motion - November 18

Deca Sports Freedom – Holiday 2010

Originally a tedious requirement to installing Half-Life 2, Steam has now grown to become a goliath in the world of digital gaming sales. Valve’s software has just passed 30 million registered users and reports that there are consistantly at least 3 million users online at any time, with 6 million different users logging in throughout the day. Seeing annual growth of over 100% over the past six years, Steam now offers over 1200 games. This year’s release of Steam for Mac has surely given Valve a strong boost in sales and user number, and Valve states that it will continue to develop the platform further.
